Security Licensing Conditions

If you want to become security officer, security guard, crowd controller or investigations agent (in South Australia), you must hold a Security Agents Licence with Consumer and Business Services (CBS).

All enquiries should be directed to the relevant licensing authority in your State or Territory.

In SA more information about security licensing is available at www.cbs.sa.gov.au or by calling 131 882.

Fees for Security and Investigations Licences in SA

Security licensing fees are payable directly to CBS and are separate from the course fees.

For more information about fees visit the CBS website - follow the link and scroll down to: Fees.

Offences and Convictions

It is the responsibility of the individual student to ensure they comply with the legislative requirements for the security industry. Offences and Convictions may exclude persons from being eligible to receive a security or investigations agents licence.  When applying for a licence, CBS will conduct a series of background checks to ensure you are suitable to hold a licence. People who have been found guilty or convicted of a criminal offence may not be eligible to receive a licence, and some offences no longer prevent persons from holding a licence after a specific period of time has passed.

If you are unsure if you have offences that might exclude you from receiving a licence we recommend obtaining the relevant courts documents and/or doing a National Police Check prior to committing any payments to training and licensing fees.

A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a new reference number system that has been introduced by the commonwealth government. The USI will help students to access their training results for all nationally accredited training, including qualifications and units of competency, completed with a Vocational Education and Training (VET) provider, like Tactical Training.

From 1 January 2015, you will need to give your USI to all training organisations you choose to study with.

Students who need a USI include:

  •         Students who are enrolling in nationally recognised training for the first time
  •         School students completing nationally recognised training
  •         Students who have already started and are continuing with nationally recognised training

Once you create your USI you will be able to:

  •         Give your USI to each training organisation you study with
  •         View and update your details in your USI account
  •         View and download your training records and results (transcript) from early 2016 onwards
  •         Manage who can view your transcript

It will be compulsory for training organisations to collect your USI before a certificate can be issued to you. If you would like more information about the USI, please visit the Australian Government Department of Industry webpage Unique Student Identifier (USI), where you can create your own USI account.
